Eight shows on Netflix have been canceled in 2026, so far
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said cancellations are based on performance and budget, not creative success
Several canceled shows, like The Vince Staples Show, received critical acclaim but struggled to attract large audiences
Netflix made some serious shifts to its lineup this year.
Since January 2026, the streamer has canceled eight series — including a few fan favorites like Alice in Borderland and The Vince Staples Show.
While the decisions may come as a surprise to viewers, Netflix leadership has long maintained that renewals hinge on performance.
In a January 2023 interview with Bloomberg, CEO Ted Sarandos said the company has “never canceled a successful show."
"A lot of these shows were well-intended but talk to a very small audience on a very big budget," he explained. "The key to it is you have to be able to talk to a small audience on a small budget and a large audience at a large budget. If you do that well, you can do that forever."
So which titles didn’t make the cut? Here are eight shows that won’t be returning to Netflix in 2026.

Deadline reported in January 2026 that Netflix had canceled The Abandons, a big-budget Western series starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.
Creator Kurt Sutter left the show before the end of production, and he didn't mince words when sharing news of the cancellation on Instagram.
"Dear Netflix, Next time fear compels you to choose the algorithm over a creator’s vision, remember how that choice unraveled a potentially beautiful project,” the Sons of Anarchy creator wrote, per Deadline.
Hours after posting the message — which included some of the show's budget costs — he redacted his comments and said his "passion sincerely apologizes."

After two seasons, Netflix also canceled The Vince Staples show in January 2026.
Despite the series earning strong ratings — scoring 94% with critics and 88% with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, per Deadline — it struggled to reach a wide audience, ranking No. 1,446 in Netflix’s second-half of 2025 viewership report.
Rapper and creator Vince Staples, whose life served as the loose inspiration for the show, hasn’t commented on the cancellation.

Creator Mattson Tomlin confirmed on X in February 2026 that his animated Netflix series Terminator Zero had been canceled.
"It was cancelled," he wrote in response to a fan asking about the show's status. "The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day not nearly enough people watched it."
He continued, "I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in season’s 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is."

Though season 3 of Alice in Borderland ended ambiguously enough for fans to think a fourth installment was likely, Netflix confirmed in its second-half of 2025 viewership report that the show had ended.
Star Tao Tsuchiya previously spoke of the series' future, telling The Hollywood Reporter in September 2025 that she thought Alice in Borderland would end in season 2.
"I felt like that was a great way to finish the story," she explained, "So I was kind of surprised when they presented season three to me!"

Though the streamer initially renewed the Hindi adaptation of the hit Spanish series Elite, one of the show's stars wrote on Instagram that it hadn't been renewed.
“Unfortunately we could not give you another season because life usually has other plans," Class castmember Gurfateh Pirzada told fans, per Men's Journal.
He continued, "l still remember it was the last week of 2024 when I heard the news of class being cancelled and I came down with a high fever and thought not again…not another one of my projects getting shelved.”
Netflix hasn't officially commented on the show.

In March 2026, Miss Governor star Terri J. Vaughn revealed that the Tyler Perry-created series was not returning to Netflix for another season.
“I have to admit, I was quite heartbroken when I first got the info," the actress said in an Instagram video, per Blavity. "I really worked my ass off to make that show come to fruition."
She added, "My heart and the intention behind the show was just, and I still feel it was just so beautiful and purposeful [and] impactful…to be able to tell those stories through that character.”
