Anna Wintour didn't hold back her opinions on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

In a Friday, April 17, interview with Amy Odell for her Back Row podcast, director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna said that while they didn't ask the legendary fashion editor to appear in the movie, she did pay the production a visit.

Wintour, 76, stopped by as they were filming a scene in the Dior offices where the character Emily (played by Emily Blunt) now works. While standing near the monitor with the former Vogue editor-in-chief, Brosh McKenna recalled Wintour commenting that there were too many flowers in the shot. She also said that Dior would only have white flowers, not pink.

“I came running out and I was like, ‘Dude, kill the flowers,’” said Brosh McKenna, prompting the prop team to replace the arrangement with a single vase of white flowers.

In addition to sharing her set critiques, Wintour also posed for a photo with the cast and filmed a gag take that Frankel said will come out as an extra when the movie hits streaming platforms.“Unfortunately, Anna jumped her cue, so the shot isn't always in focus. And I didn't want to do a second take. I can't ask Anna to do take two,” he told Odell.

The original 2006 film was adapted for the screen from Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel The Devil Wears Prada. It is widely believed that the character of Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief at New York’s fictional Runway magazine, is partially based on Wintour. Like the protagonist, Weisberger had once worked as a personal assistant to the former Vogue editor.

In a recent conversation with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Front Row, Meryl Streep, who plays Priestly, says she did not know that Wintour was believed to be the inspiration for the character when the original film was made

“I didn't know her at all because of my dissociation from fashion for the first movie,” Streep, 76, recalled.

Back in 2006, Streep “didn’t want to” get to know Wintour when creating the character.

“I just wanted to create my own Miranda,” the Oscar winner told Cohen, 57. “I wanted to have it be my own thing, and, ‘Who I would be if I were in charge?’”

But “after I got to know her over the last 20 years,” Streep continued, Wintour “did call me up and say, ‘What's this going to be like?’” in reference to the long-awaited sequel.

Streep recalled telling Wintour, “‘I think it's going to be good. You're not going to be worried.’ And I still feel that way.”
