The Grotesquerie actor, 65, received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, Dec. 16, with his wife, Angela Bassett, and their twins, Slater and Bronwyn, 19, by his side. The siblings gave heartwarming speeches during the ceremony while celebrate their father's accomplishment.

Kicking things off, Slater shared how his dad is "the most altruistic public servant that I've ever encountered."

"Empathy and taking care of people are one thing, but consistently bearing witness to others existences is entirely another. I've never seen someone cherish people like my father, expecting and wanting no award," he said. "This man goes out of his way to make sure that people around him are at ease, helping in any way conducive to that goal."

The teen went on to talk about a conversation he recently had with his dad. During the conversation, Slater said he asked Vance how he's able to be so giving and invest so much of himself into others, while still having enough to take care of himself.

"At the end of the day, I was trying to understand how one's identity can remain grounded and fundamental to oneself while being contingent on the health and love one is able to provide for other people. He said this to me, 'You have to be like water son. Permeable at everything to everyone before you, but not so fluid that you forget it. That when it's time to take solid form, you have it in your capacity,' " Slater recalled. "He said, 'There is a time for everything and wisdom, which comes from God is knowing, is knowing, and what time it is.' "

"Well, I know what time it is today. It's time for the giver to receive, and I couldn't be prouder. witnessing a man who asks for nothing, receive everything," he concluded. "Father, you've been an exemplary role model to me every day I work to become at least half the man that you are. Congratulations dad."

Echoing her brother's sentiments, Bronwyn said that it was her "greatest honor" to call Vance her dad, adding that the speech was hard to write because her dad is "the greatest man I have ever known."

"The world knows him as an award-winning actor on stage and screen, but today I want to share how he's been an award-winning father at home," she said. "No matter how far away his work took him, whether he was gone for months doing a Broadway show or filming The People v. O. J. Simpson, my dad called me every single night, and every night he prayed with me."

"He was a strict father, but a gentle one. In elementary school, he'd wake me up by rubbing my back and slowly opening the blinds. When I had bad dreams, he'd come to my room, sit next to me and sing Jesus loves me this I know," Bronwyn added. "There are moments like these he taught me that it doesn't take much to be kind.

She also opened up about the love she's witnessed him give her mom, sharing his gestures taught her to put others first and lean into her support system.

"I also watched my dad love my mom with intention. Before we moved houses every Saturday morning, he'd go to the farmer's market and make sure there were fresh flowers in every room of our own home," she recalled. "He once told me that he learned being a husband meant serving my mom. That once she was happy, everything else fell into place."

"On one Valentine's Day, after I had just broken up with my very serious 10th grade boyfriend, and I thought my world was falling apart, my dad showed up with flowers and a box of candy," she continued. "Just small gestures, but ones that made you feel deeply loved. He taught me that it's okay to need help, that going to therapy doesn't make you weak, it makes you stronger.

She concluded her speech saying that Vance is the "greatest man I know because he lives with love."

"He taught me to put others first, even when it's inconvenient. To do things, not for recognition, but because you care," Bronwyn said. "He's shown me the kind of love I hope to have one day. But most importantly, he's been my dad."

"Dad, you spend your life serving others today as we celebrate you. I hope you'll allow yourself to be fully celebrated," she added. "There's no one more deserving of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, not just for the greatness you've given this industry, but for the greatness of who you are. I love you, dad."
