Millie Bobby Brown returns as Enola, younger sister to Henry Cavill's Sherlock Holmes, with Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury

Millie Bobby Brown's Enola Holmes is back and investigating her most thrilling case yet. Oh, and she's engaged to be married.
Coming to Netflix on July 1, Enola Holmes 3 sees the return of producer-star Brown, 22, as the intrepid Victorian-era detective, this time on her way to Malta, per an official synopsis, “where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.”

As one of the newly released photos shared exclusively with PEOPLE shows, Enola is also ready to walk down the aisle! Amid tackling her next case, she finds herself on the verge of marriage with Louis Partridge's Tewkesbury.

“People may or may not know that this film involves a wedding,” Partridge, 22, teases to PEOPLE. “With any wedding, there's drama around every corner, and this one is no exception.”
In fact, he says, “Enola and Tewkesbury go through a bit of a rough patch. The stakes are higher than we've seen before but our characters are older and wiser than before too, and they care about each other a lot.”

"I think what’s really exciting about this one is how much Enola has grown," Brown shares with PEOPLE. "She’s still got that same fire and curiosity, but she’s a bit more confident in who she is and what she stands for. The stakes feel bigger, not just in terms of the mystery, but emotionally too. And of course, fans of Enola and Tewkesbury… there’s definitely more to explore there. Their relationship feels more mature, a bit deeper, and real. I think audiences are really going to feel like they’ve grown up with Enola, which is such a special thing.
Along with Brown reprising her role as the now-grown-up sister of Henry Cavill's Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, Himesh Patel as Dr. John Watson and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty all return as well.

In the first glimpse at the film, Bonham Carter, 59, can be seen in a tunnel of some sort, while Patel, 35, can be seen having a serious conversation with Partridge. Meanwhile, Brown and Cavill, 42, look to be in investigation mode.

Philip Barantini (who helmed Netflix's Adolescence) takes over directing duties from Harry Bradbeer, who led 2020's Enola Holmes and its 2022 sequel. The movies are adapted by Jack Thorne from Nancy Springer's series of mystery novels, the most recent of which was published in 2023.
Calling the cast “wonderful” and “willing to ‘go there,'” Barantini, 45, says, “this was a very different project to Adolescence, as you can imagine, and I really enjoyed stepping into an adventure movie which was completely outside my usual comfort zone. I had an absolute blast.”
As for the engagement of Enola and Tewkesbury, Barantini says the two characters have “grown up, they're more mature, and I think audiences will really enjoy how their dynamic has evolved along with them.”

“A lot of filmmaking is problem solving,” says Partridge. “We were incredibly lucky to have Phil who is a master problem solver as well as a great energy to have around professionally and personally.”
Of Brown, he adds, “It's fab when you know another actor and work well together. It takes so much of the pressure off. We know when we can play but also when we need to give each other space. We had a lot of fun this time.”

Brown echoes the sentiments of her costar, telling PEOPLE, "I think my favorite part is just how easy it feels now. We’ve built such a bond over the years, so there’s a lot of trust there, and we don’t have to think about the chemistry—it’s just naturally there which is really nice."
Enola Holmes 3 premieres on Netflix on July 1.
