NFL mock draft: 5 scenarios for top 10 picks after Giants big-ticket trade
The 2026 NFL Draft is just days away, and all anyone can wonder is what will happen after the No. 1 pick is announced.
The Las Vegas Raiders are all but certain to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the draft's top overall selection. After that, it's anyone's guess as to what will occur.
No real consensus has formed atop the 2026 NFL Draft. Sure, many mock draft analysts are projecting the New York Jets to take either David Bailey or Arvell Reese. Jeremiyah Love has been mocked to the Tennessee Titans more consistently. At the same time, the alma mater, "Ohio State," almost invariably follows the player the Giants are expected to take with the fifth overall pick.
Still, the Arizona Cardinals represent a major wild card with the No. 3 overall pick. That – plus the Cincinnati Bengals' recent acquisition of Dexter Lawrence, which cost the team the 10th overall pick – has also thrown a wrench into what many mock draft analysts have projected could happen.

All that's to say, there are many ways the first 10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft could play out. Here's a look at five possibilities, ranging from the expected to chaos incarnate.

Arvell Reese, LB/DE, Ohio StateOn a defense already dotted with stars, Reese rose from an occasional contributor to a bona fide star in his first full season as a starter. The 6-4, 241-pound linebacker exhibited uncommon fluidity for a player of his size, finding equal comfort dropping back in coverage as bullying his way into the backfield. His pass-rush plan is still rather rudimentary at the moment, but he has the toolkit of a double-digit sack artist. In a league where defenses are constantly taxed against the pass and run, Reese displays a unique aptitude for detonating whatever play an offense might throw at him.
2026 NFL mock draft scenariosScenario 1: No Surprises -
Las Vegas Raiders: QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
New York Jets: Edge David Bailey, Texas Tech
Arizona Cardinals: LB Arvell Reese, Ohio State
Tennessee Titans: RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame
New York Giants: S Caleb Downs, Ohio State
Cleveland Browns: WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State
Washington Commanders: LB Sonny Styles, Ohio State
New Orleans Saints: CB Mansoor Delane, LSU
Kansas City Chiefs: Edge Rueben Bain Jr., Miami (FL)
New York Giants: WR Jordyn Tyson, Arizona
Let's start with about as normal a draft scenario as we can. We're following the consensus with our first four picks, before going with Caleb Downs over Sonny Styles in what seems like a coin-flip decision for the Giants.
The Giants have also been increasingly tied to Tyson since acquiring the 10th pick, so he gets the nod. To get there, the four teams picking ahead of the Giants all choose players that fill major needs and are among the top talents on the board.
The only noticeable potential flaw with this draft scenario? There is no offensive lineman selected within the first 10 picks, despite teams like the Browns, Cardinals, Chiefs and Giants having significant needs at the tackle position.
Still, it's very easy to imagine a scenario like this playing out to kickstart the 2026 NFL Draft.
Scenario 2: All You Need Is Love -
Las Vegas Raiders: QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
New York Jets: Edge David Bailey, Texas Tech
Arizona Cardinals: RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame
Tennessee Titans: LB Arvell Reese, Ohio State
New York Giants: LB Sonny Styles, Ohio State
Cleveland Browns: OT Francis Mauigoa, Miami (FL)
Washington Commanders: Edge Rueben Bain Jr., Miami (FL)
New Orleans Saints: WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State
Kansas City Chiefs: CB Mansoor Delane, LSU
New York Giants: S Caleb Downs, Ohio State
Love to the Cardinals has been generating buzz ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. That's not to say it will happen, but if it does, it will create a minor shake-up, depending on what the Titans do with Love off the board.
In this situation, Robert Saleh chooses Reese – who many believe has the highest ceiling of any defensive player in this year's class – after the Jets and Cardinals pass on him. That, once again, gives the Giants a choice of Downs or Styles. This time, they take a chance on the latter but end up with both after the other back-end top-10 teams opt to pass on the star safety.
Why would the Browns, Commanders, Saints and Chiefs all pass on Downs? Offensive tackle, edge rusher, wide receiver and cornerback all carry higher positional value than safety. Cleveland, Washington, New Orleans and Kansas City all have major needs at those positions, so Mauigoa, Bain, Tate and Delane make sense for each franchise.
Scenario 3: What is Love? (RB Don't Hurt Me) -
Las Vegas Raiders: QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
New York Jets: LB Arvell Reese, Ohio State
Arizona Cardinals: Edge David Bailey, Texas Tech
Tennessee Titans: LB Sonny Styles, Ohio State
New York Giants: WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State
Cleveland Browns: OT Spencer Fano, Utah
Washington Commanders: RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame
New Orleans Saints: Edge Rueben Bain Jr., Miami (FL)
Kansas City Chiefs: OT Francis Mauigoa, Miami (FL)
New York Giants: S Caleb Downs, Ohio State
Speaking of positional value, what happens if teams decide they don't want to spend top-five selections on running back or safety? Love's floor seems to be the No. 7 overall selection to Washington, and if he falls that far, players like Tate and a top offensive tackle – like Fano or Mauigoa – could be pushed up.

If this scenario unfolds, it's within the realm of possibility Downs could slip out of the top 10. It would require the Giants to view a top cornerback, like Mansoor Delane, as having the greater value to the franchise because of the position he plays.
At the end of the day, it's hard to imagine John Harbaugh passing up on an elite safety after seeing the impact Kyle Hamilton had on his defense in Baltimore.
Also of note in this scenario: the Jets go with Reese over Bailey – which they could do but aren't presently favored to – while the Chiefs land a bookend for Josh Simmons, which is an understated need for the team.

Scenario 4: Trade Winds -
Las Vegas Raiders: QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
New York Jets: Edge David Bailey, Texas Tech
Kansas City Chiefs: LB Arvell Reese, Ohio State
Tennessee Titans: RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame
New York Giants: S Caleb Downs, Ohio State
Dallas Cowboys: LB Sonny Styles, Ohio State
Washington Commanders: WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State
New Orleans Saints: CB Mansoor Delane, LSU
Arizona Cardinals: OT Francis Mauigoa, Miami (FL)
New York Giants: WR Jordyn Tyson, Arizona State
OK, let's have some fun. We'll have the Chiefs and Cowboys trade up with the Cardinals and Browns to give a taste of what could happen if the 2026 NFL Draft is as trade-happy as some are predicting.
The Cardinals have long been rumored as a trade-down candidate. Their biggest need is at right tackle, but there isn't necessarily a tackle worth taking with the No. 3 overall selection. They could find a willing partner in the Chiefs, who may relish the opportunity to add an elite talent to their defense with a rare top-10 selection.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys make sense as a trade-up candidate, as there's no guarantee any of the draft's top-six defensive players will be on the board for Dallas with the 12th overall selection. Moving up to No. 6 will be easier for Dallas to achieve than jumping to No. 3, and getting Styles would go a long way toward improving what was one of the NFL's worst defenses last season.
Why would the Browns be willing to move down? They need a potential-packed left tackle, and Mauigoa profiles as a better fit on the right side. Having the 12th overall pick could allow them to target Kadyn Proctor or Monroe Freeling, two big-bodied blockers who could develop into stars at the position.
Scenario 5: Chaos From The Top Down -
Las Vegas Raiders: QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
New York Jets: LB Arvell Reese, Ohio State
Arizona Cardinals: OT Francis Mauigoa, Miami (FL)
Tennessee Titans: Edge David Bailey, Texas Tech
New York Giants: RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame
Cleveland Browns: OT Kadyn Proctor, Alabama
Washington Commanders: LB Sonny Styles, Ohio State
New Orleans Saints: WR Jordyn Tyson, Arizona State
Kansas City Chiefs: TE Kenyon Sadiq, Oregon
New York Giants: OT Spencer Fano, Utah
Little is settled beyond the 2026 NFL Draft's No. 1 overall pick. While the options included here may all be more of the "dark horse" variety, each is within reason.
The Cardinals kickstart the chaos by rolling with Mauigoa at No. 3, an acknowledgment that their need at right tackle outweighs everything. That decision pushes Bailey into the laps of the Titans, who take the edge rusher for Saleh's defense and allow Harbaugh to get Love to be a three-down weapon for his offense.
Things go even further off the rails when Cleveland makes Proctor the No. 2 tackle off the board. That may seem outlandish – Proctor hasn't been a top-10 pick across many mocks – but his unique size (6-7, 352 pounds) and movement skills could lead a team like the Browns to take a shot on him earlier than expected.
This scenario closes with another trio of surprises. The Saints take Tyson over Tate, the Chiefs opt for a tight end in Sadiq to succeed Travis Kelce and the Giants pass on Downs to upgrade their offensive line in front of Jaxson Dart. While the first two picks are possible, it is – once again – hard to imagine Harbaugh letting Downs fall out of the top 10.
But hey, stranger things have happened. And in a class where there is little consensus outside of the No. 1 overall pick, nothing should shock NFL fans when the picks are turned in during the 2026 NFL Draft.
