- Sheinelle Jones and Jenna Bush Hager discussed eating on the subway on Wednesday.
- Jones horrified her cohost with the confession that she does it "all the time."
- Earlier this month, Jones revealed she had recently fallen asleep on a train from Philadelphia and awoke all alone at 12:20 a.m.
Jenna Bush Hager is serious about the New York Transportation Authority’s "If you see something, say something" slogan.
The *Today with Jenna & Sheinelle* cohosts were debating eating on the subway on Wednesday’s show when Jones made a jaw-dropping confession: "That is me all day, every day… I do a lot of salads."
“You eat out of a *bowl* on the subway?” Bush Hager exclaimed.
“All the time,” Jones doubled down.
Bush Hager then schooled her cohost on safety precautions if she’s to continue dining aboard the germ-ridden subway, which is frequented by more than 3.4 million passengers every day.
"You need to take this," she pleaded, holding a bottle of hand sanitizer belonging to *Today* host Savannah Guthrie. "The subway is not a sanitary place to eat!"

Jones defended herself, explaining that because her hands are holding the salad she technically doesn’t touch anything on the train.
“Do you put your hand in a bag of chips?” Bush Hager asked.
"Oh, maybe," admitted Jones.
But it’s not just the germs from human passengers, they agreed. Rodents have infested New York’s subway system, like “Pizza Rat,” who went viral in 2015 for dragging a slice bigger than its little body down the steps of a train station. In December, two rats made headlines for fighting over a bagel.
“Is it appetizing to have a bite of your salad while a rat skitters across the floor?” wondered Bush Hager.
As Jones explained it, her hunger and convenience often win out over sanitation concerns after a long day at work; in fact, "If you see me at 30 Rock, I’ll be walking in the concourse eating a salad."
"You walk and eat too?" gasped Bush Hager.
This isn’t the first time Jones has opened up about her peculiar public transit habits.
On the April 6 show, she shared a recent story about falling asleep on an Amtrak train while traveling back to New York from Philadelphia — and waking up at 12:20 a.m. in a completely dark car. Unable to get the doors open, she dialed 911.

“[The dispatcher] goes, ‘Okay, stay right there,’ which, where else am I going?" Jones joked. "And then I felt like a toddler. I was like, ‘Will you stay on the phone with me?’"
Two officers eventually came to her rescue and freed the NBC journalist, who they recognized (and asked for a selfie).
